A friend recently sent me an email:Open source database acquired by Sun: Sun to Acquire MySQL
and asked the questions, "Time to move to Postgress or Firebird?"
My initial thought was heck no, that's too much work.
However, after trying to install openoffice today, I think my first priority will be to try and work with as few Sun products as possible.
You can't just install the openoffice package. You have to manually install various java componently into the distfiles directory. It would have been a less frustrating task if the proper files were available!
Sun just makes the process unbearable and I'll chose to software that doesn't involve any convoluted procedures required by Sun.
Congratulations to the MySQL developers who got a billion dollars out of the deal. I hope they take the money and run as far away from Sun as possible!
